The Burnham Institute for Medical Research opened in early 2009, the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012, employing more than 2,000, and in 2008, and the Florida Legislature appropriated funding to begin planning for a 100,000 square-foot biomedical research facility to be located at Lake Nona. These medical and biomedical facilities are opening in one community in Florida with a collaborative mission that continues job growth stimulation for highly skilled and high paying jobs to residents.
